Mundial Montreal

November 19, 2019 10:00 am - November 22, 2019 12:00 am

Global | Canada | Montréal | Cabaret Lion D'or, Café Campus, La Balcon, Gesu, M2, Théatre Outremont, Théâtre Fairmount

Cultural events

Mundial is where North America’s largest gathering of talent buyers and tastemakers connect intimately to create opportunities for the global music community.   The event is creating an unprecedented community network of partners and presenters from across the country and abroad with a common goal: to develop touring opportunities nationally, and beyond!

Mundial welcomed international journalists such as: RFI, RADIO NOVA, SONGLINES MAGAZINE, Mundofonias, etc. Full press review of past editions available on our  website .  Mundial offers opportunities to meet and develop relationships with national and international professionals including presenters (festival and venue artistic directors), agents, managers, artists, labels, export officers, etc.

Mundial Montreal has formalized a network of presenters interested in developing world music, called  World Routes Network , determined to expand their horizons, swap trade secrets and inspire a better vision for world music. During the event in November, Mundial hosts 3 private presenter meetings to architect the path to more cooperative and effective touring strategies, address common issues, etc.

Mundial Montreal also created a special series by and for Indigenous Music across the world : Indigenous Sounds Series.

The  Indigenous Sounds  series secures a place for artists from Indigenous communities in Mundial Montréal’s programming. It highlights the talent, presence and diversity of the many Indigenous communities across Canada and even further.

The series showcases professional, export-ready artists and is accompanied by professional development activities, mentoring sessions and other targeted networking activities. This unique component of the world music industry’s professional events, initiated by Mundial Montréal, was developed to create a bridge for artists to benefit from visibility and touring opportunities in new mainstream markets.

Furthermore, Mundial Montreal via the Indigenous Sounds Series tries to share intelligent content and tools, such as this toolkit , cleverly written by the Montreal Indigenous Community Network.

Indigenous languages matter for social, economic and political development, peaceful coexistence and reconciliation in our societies. Yet many of them are in danger of disappearing. It is for this reason that the United Nations declared 2019 the Year of Indigenous Languages in order to encourage urgent action to preserve, revitalize and promote them.
