Celebrating isiZulu as a mother tongue language of South Africa

This event is to celebrate and create awareness in isiZulu. SADiLaR will be celebrating all of the 11 official languages of South Africa by dedicating each language to a certain month of the year. We aim to promote South African linguistic diversity and multilingualism as part of the United Nations’ International Year of Indigenous Languages. SADiLaR has dedicated the month of February to celebrate isiZulu as an official language of South Africa.

International Year of Indigenous Languages in the World and in Estonia

The aim of the event is to introduce the 2019 International Year of the Indigenous Languages to the general public and media in Estonia and to contribute to the awareness raising about its objectives. The event will consist of two presentations, a panel discussion and a cultural programme.

The Commonwealth Writers Translation Symposium

In March 2019, Commonwealth Writers – the cultural initiative of the Commonwealth Foundation – will convene a Translation Symposium in Penang, Malaysia, to investigate imbalances caused by the relative lack of literary translation in South and Southeast Asia. Taking place during the International Year of Indigenous Languages – a year in which Kuala Lumpur has been designated World Book Capital – this forum gathers translators, writers, experts, publishers and literary agents from Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Pakistan, and Singapore to explore common issues and assess scope for collaboration and knowledge-sharing.

2019 SICC First Nations Language Keepers Gathering

Annually in November, the SICC hosts its First Nations Language Keepers Gathering. It is the leading national gathering devoted to preserving, promoting and protecting First Nations languages and cultures. It brings together academics, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, master speakers, educators, community leaders and students from across Canada and the United States. Our gathering will be held in Saskatoon SK on November 6-7, 2019 at Prairieland Park in Hall A and our theme for 2019 is Our Sacred Languages Walk With Us.

Langlang Buana Nusantara / Journey through the Indonesian Archipelago: More Than Just Spice

Polyglot Indonesia Jakarta Chapter presents the Language Exchange Meetup activities series entitled "Langlang Buana Nusantara!" In the third meetup of this series, we discussed the language and culture in the Maluku Islands in an activity entitled "More Than Just Spice" held on February 16, 2019. In collaboration with Keluarga Mahasiswa Maluku UI (KMM UI), a student union of Maluku Province at Indonesia University, we present unique facts about the Maluku Islands and teach the Ambonese Indonesian.
