The Project is called LifeRead, which reflects the schools intention to encourage and improve a students understanding of his/her vernacular, and in turn form an appreciation of the iTaukei language and the importance of retaining it.
To lay the foundation for resilience, tolerance, national pride, cultural understanding and civic duties, students need to be equipped with reading in the iTaukei language. There are a total of 40,000 citizens residing in the greater nasinu area, and Tacirua has seen an increase in number of citizens rushing in to reside in squatter settlements. To encourage families to maintain and preserve their vernacular language, will be an aim of this Project, and this is one way to ensure that Literacy levels improve and increase.
The involvement of children will definitely include parent engagement, so the multiplier effect will take place once the Project begins.
