The NEȾOLṈEW̱ Indigenous Language Research Network ( www.netolnew.ca ) is a national Partnership of Indigenous scholars, Indigenous community leaders and allies involved in Indigenous language revitalization in Canada.
On January 28 & 29, 2019 , we will host an Indigenous Language Forum focused on developing NILLA (NEȾOLṈEW̱ Indigenous Language Learning Atlas), an online sharing space for Indigenous communities to share their own and learn about others’ successful language learning strategies within Canada.
The NILLA project prioritizes Indigenous ownership of data by providing permission-access to shared resources. Indigenous communities decide whether to participate and which language resources they wish to share. Invited Indigenous Language scholars, administrators, practitioners and activists, as well as Indigenous community representatives and non-Indigenous allies will explore these topics at the Forum through dialogue and shared insights, contributing to the discussion around how innovative technologies can assist community-led research and efforts in Indigenous language revitalization and maintenance.
Our Forum will be the kick off of for the International Year of Indigenous Languages for the NEȾOLṈEW̱ group and sets an important backdrop for our gathering.
