Indigenous Languages: Future, Present, Past

This webinar brings together several people from Kichwa and Waorani communities of the Ecuadorian Amazon for a multilingual panel discussion. Participants will share how they navigate the boundaries between Indigenous and non-Indigenous worlds and the roles that Indigenous languages play in intercultural translation. Two generations of Indigenous people will speak in a combination of English, Spanish, Kichwa, and Wao Terero about their perspectives of future, present, and past. Moderators will provide as much real-time language translation into English as possible; some sections will be subtitled, and the webinar will be recorded for future viewing. The webinar will include a discussion about the Andes and Amazon Field School at Iyarina (https://i-spartnerships.com/), where students and researchers are invited by Indigenous peoples to co-produce knowledge through exchanges of language, culture, and projects that benefit the human and non-human communities in the Ecuadorian Amazon rainforest.
