Photographic exhibition by Ms Martine Perret “Ngala Wongga: Cultural Significance of the Languages in the Goldfields”.
The exhibition is a striking presentation of both the landscape of Western Australia and the cultural significance of indigenous languages in Australia. Its innovative use of photography and multimedia, and the integration of the sounds of some of the endangered indigenous languages of Australia along with elements of personal accounts of community leaders and native speakers, result in a powerful evocation of the importance of the preservation of language and culture.
The exhibition is a testament to both the beauty of the images and the significance of the underlying story of Australian Aboriginal peoples’ connection to culture and country.
