“Talents of the Arctic. Children” is an international cultural and educational project for children of secondary school age
10–15 years old), implemented within the framework of the International project “Children of the Arctic ”, a group for sustainable development under the Arctic Council. The initiator of the project and the organizer is the Association of Cultural Figures for the Support and Development of Talented Youth
Association “Talented Youth”).

The objective of the project is to provide comprehensive support aimed at preserving and promoting cultural values, traditional lifestyles and, above all, the national languages of indigenous peoples. Special attention is paid to the acquisition of new knowledge and the development of skills among talented children – representatives of the small indigenous peoples of the Russian Federation.

More than two hundred gifted children from the Republic of Komi, the Republic of Karelia, the Murmansk region, the Nenets district, the Yamalo-Nenets district, the Khanty-Mansiysk district, the Saratov region, Taimyr
Krasnoyarsk region), as well as teachers, experts and public figures took part in the project in 2018. Under the guidance of famous artists, directors and cameramen, the children participated in an interactive form of the educational program: they learned how to work with a literary basis and participated in the filming of a film about the project.

The program of work with young talents in 2019 will be devoted to celebrating the International Year of Indigenous Languages in Russia under the auspices of UNESCO. One of the main directions of work on the project is the study and inclusion of folklore material in the scripts of films in the languages of the indigenous peoples – project participants.

The project “Talents of the Arctic. Children ”received a high expert assessment at the Arctic Forum
December 2017, St. Petersburg), at the Summit“ Arctic-2018 ”(February 15-16, 2018, St. Petersburg), at the Northern Cultural Forum
March 2018, Syktyvkar, Komi Republic), meeting of the Chamber of Young Legislators under the Council of Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on July 19, 2018

Indigenous languages matter for social, economic and political development, peaceful coexistence and reconciliation in our societies. Yet many of them are in danger of disappearing. It is for this reason that the United Nations declared 2019 the Year of Indigenous Languages in order to encourage urgent action to preserve, revitalize and promote them.
